Athletes with criminal pasts that are playing sports right now

It’s great and noble to be a well-rounded individual, someone who can balance work, personal life, and hobbies. Lots of professional athletes, for example, spend their non-sports time on charity work, filming commercials, starring in movies, training, or hanging out with their families. Others wile away the hours with some less savory activities, like crime. Here are some professional athletes who have been convicted of crimes and are still competing on the field, on the court, or in the ring.

Who would book non-hotel accommodations and why

Are you one of those who have been exploring accommodation options other than hotels or non-hotel accommodations (NHAs)? Platforms that offer homestays or home rental options have proliferated over this decade.

Agoda who are one the world’s largest accommodation booking platforms, recently conducted a survey to look at the motivations and booking behaviours driving the rise in NHAs, which would include homestays and rental properties. Agoda’s inventory of worldwide properties has includes such options for many years. These are some of the results of that survey.

1. Travellers are more likely to stay in a home when close to home

Domestic travellers are more likely to book homestays. But they are also more likely to consider booking privately-owned homes/apartments when travelling to neighbouring countries.

Travellers from Indonesia (79%), Singapore (71%), Philippines (82%) and Thailand (80%) will most likely consider booking homestays when travelling within Asia. Similarly, travellers from Britain (88%), United States (84%) and Australia (75%) will most likely consider booking a privately-owned home within their home continent.

2. Reasons for choosing a hotel alternative varies across countries

Indonesians (55%), Malaysians (54%) and Filipinos (53%) will book NHAs to accommodate families and large groups. Meanwhile, Singaporeans (57%), Thais (54%) and Australians (46%) view NHAs as a less expensive option to a hotel room.

Adventurous Chinese travellers mostly consider NHAs to get a more local travel experience (55%).

3. NHA types

Among non-hotel bookers, there is a clear trend in the most popular type of NHAs booked per market

♦ B&Bs rank first for Filipino travellers, with 53% of those surveyed having booked one in the past year

♦ Private homes are among the favourites for travellers from Singapore (44%), Malaysia (40%) and Australia (38%)

♦ Villas and guest houses are well liked by Indonesian (37%, 36%) and Thai (31%, 32%) travellers

The agoda Travel & Tech Study is based on a survey of 16,000 plus respondents aged 18-64 across 15 countries and covers the motivations and booking behaviour of travellers in the age of tech innovation.

Celebs React To Las Vegas Mass Shooting

This is beyond horrible.

Celebrities jumped on social media to react to the news of the Las Vegas mass shooting, which left 50 dead and more than 400 injured, and everyone is understandably shaken. The shooter, a 64-year-old man named Stephen Paddock, opened fire on the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival with an automatic weapon from his hotel room at the Mandalay Bay.

“Tonight has been beyond horrific. I still don’t know what to say but wanted to let everyone know that Me and my Crew are safe. My Thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved tonight. It hurts my heart that this would happen to anyone who was just coming out to enjoy what should have been a fun night. #heartbroken #stopthehate,” Jason Aldean, who was performing at the time, said on Instagram.

“Praying for all the innocent victims and their families in Las Vegas,” Celine Dion wrote. “My heart is breaking for everyone in Vegas tonight. Simply devastating. So much loss,” Kelly Clarkson added.

Here are some other notable reactions:

Mariah Carey

      • : “Horrified to hear about the shooting in #LasVegas. My thoughts are with the victims and their families. Praying for everyone’s safety

🙏💔

    • .”

Bob Saget: “Oh God. Vegas. WTF is happening. Can’t keep up with all the pain this country is facing. Sending love to Vegas.”

Taylor Swift: “There are no words to express the helplessness and sorrow my broken heart feels for the victims in Vegas and their families.”

Josh Gad: “Oh God. Just woke up to this sickening news. What is happening to this country? Those poor poor people. I’m numb.”

Kate Hudson: “💔 My thoughts and prayers are with you 💔 #StopThisHate #StopTheViolence 😢.”

Brad Paisley: “Praying for everyone at #HarvestFestival. There are no words right now that suffice.”

Adam Levine: “My heart is broken. I am sick with sadness for all those suffering in Vegas… and what remains of my broken heart belongs to you in this moment.”

We’re at a loss for words.

Rob Kardashian Suing Blac Chyna For Assault And Battery

My how the tables have turned!

Rob Kardashian has filed an assault and battery lawsuit against Blac Chyna, claiming that she tried to choke him with a phone cord while high on drugs and alcohol before trashing his sister Kylie Jenner’s home, which they were living in at the time, The Blast reports. Yikes!

Kardashian claims on the night of December 14, 2016, he was on FaceTime with two friends when his baby mama picked up his gun and pointed it at the camera. She then proceeded to try and strangle him with an iPhone charger, and although he got away, she chased after him and repeatedly kicked and punched him. He claims to have photographic evidence of the injuries.

As if that wasn’t enough, she flew into a blind rage and decided to trash the house, damaging a television, breaking down a door, damaging the walls, destroying cell phones and smashing a gingerbread house that was made for the holidays in the process.

Big mistake, as Kylie is now suing too, claiming that she caused an excess of $100K in damages. The LipKit queen also says that BC taunted her by telling her to get an STD test because she was dating Tyga at the time.

The suit describes the mother-of-two as “a stripper who created a reputation as a money-hungry pseudo-celebrity” and “has little, if any, accomplishments in the entertainment industry.” Ouch! So why didn’t he go public with this info sooner? Kardashian says it’s because he was still in love with her, and didn’t want to make a huge scene that would end up in the media. He also didn’t want the mother of his child carted off to jail in handcuffs.

Chyna is threatening her own lawsuit over the revenge porn incident this summer, as well as for lost Rob & Chyna wages. She claims that she’s owed millions from the family because they cost her the show, which reportedly paid her $112K-an-episode.

Good lucking beating Kris Jenner’s lawyers in court, Chyna! It’s NOT going to go well for you!

Easier and newer way to earn Big Points with AirAsia

It’s not how much you spend but how often you spend! That sound different and interesting? Read on!

AirAsia is adding another feather to its red cap with the launch of the world’s first Freedom Flyer Programme, aimed at making it more convenient for loyal passengers to earn AirAsia Big Points ie flying miles.

The overhauled loyalty programme is based on a unique membership status system determined by how often guests fly. The more guests fly with AirAsia, the faster they will earn Big Points, regardless of how much they spend on fares.

AirAsia Group chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said the new initiative is about “democratising air travel” in a bid to make flying accessible to all.

“We wanted to give everyone the freedom to fly. This new and improved loyalty programme is the latest in our continuing quest to give our guests the freedom to live the rewarding life they’ve always dreamed of,” he said.

AirAsia X Group chief executive officer Datuk Kamarudin Meranun said the Freedom Flyer Programme allows passengers to enjoy abundant rewards and privileges.

The four-status system starts with Red status for guests who fly 13 or fewer one-way short-haul flights in the preceding 12 months, through to Gold and Platinum, and all the way up to Black for those who fly 50 or more times with AirAsia.

For every RM10 spent, Red Members can earn up to 20 BIG Points, Gold up to 40, Platinum up to 70 and Black up to 120.

Long-haul and Fly-Thru flights (connecting flights) count as two one-way short-haul flights for status calculation purposes.

The untold truth of climate research

There are a bunch of reasons why climate change hasn’t been fixed yet, and super-boringness is probably one of them. How much climate change data can the average person look at before nodding off into a plate of scrambled eggs? Probably not much, depending on how many charts, graphs, and dreary spokespeople are involved. In the interests of both entertainment and education, here are a few actually-fun facts about climate change research that (mostly) don’t include charts, statistics, or Al Gore.

Tell me about… Not getting sick while on holiday

My husband and I recently went on a holiday to Africa, and he got diarrhea. It was so bad that we had to keep stopping for him to go to the bush. What sort of diseases should I look out for while going to a different country?

It all depends on which country you are travelling to. There are various factors to consider, including the current local climate, what sort of insects and parasites are prevalent in that country, and the sanitation of that country.

Even if you are travelling to a so-called “advanced” country like the United States or one in Europe, you can fall ill, especially if the weather is cool and you did not prepare well for it.

It is usually best to research the country you are going to before travelling.

You can also ask your travel agent for advice as they would be familiar with the climate and experienced in the necessary preparations.

You can also ask your family doctor, but in my experience, they know less about a certain country than the travel agent.

However, after your travel agent recommends what medicines or vaccinations to get, you can go to your local doctor to get them and ensure their suitability.

How long do I need to prepare “medically” before going somewhere?

You usually need four to six weeks.

This is because you may need some vaccinations, which usually take some time to be effective, depending on which country you are going to.

It also depends on what country you are from.

If you are a Malaysian, then you are likely to have been exposed to more endemic diseases than, for example, an American, like hepatitis A. Therefore, you might not need a hepatitis jab.

Here are some general rules:

If you are going to a place where accommodation, hygiene and sanitation are of a relatively high quality – such as the US and most parts of Europe, Japan, South Korea etc – there will be few risks to your health.

Unless, of course, it is in the middle of winter, and you don’t dress warmly enough and get a chill.

If you are going to a place where the accommodation, hygiene and sanitation are generally poor, then you should learn about the diseases of that country.

You should also always check your mode of transportation and keep in mind your own behaviour and lifestyle.

For example, there are some travellers who like to go for a walk outside.

If you are in a malaria endemic area, then doing so will increase your chances of being bitten by a malaria-infested mosquito.

If you like eating the local roadside cuisine of the country, then you may ingest contaminated food and water, which might result in communicable diseases like hepatitis A.

You also have to consult with your doctor if you have a pre-existing disease, such as kidney failure or heart failure, as this might make you more prone to contracting diseases and infections than the normal traveller.

You might also have to remember that the medical facilities of that country aren’t necessarily as good as your own’s, and prepare accordingly.

I am going to Peru.

Peru is in South America, where many countries are currently experiencing increased levels of the Zika virus.

If you are pregnant, you should not travel to Peru or South America, because Zika infection during pregnancy can cause serious birth defects.

You should take steps to prevent mosquito bites during and after your trip.

You should also use condoms during and after your trip to prevent sexual transmission of the Zika virus.

I am going for the haj in Mecca.

There is a risk of hepatitis A and typhoid, especially if you like to eat outside with the local people.

If you are doing the haj, you are required to get meningococcal vaccination to prevent against this type of meningitis. You may need proof of vaccination before being allowed to enter Saudi Arabia.

Respiratory tract infections, especially pneumonia, are common when performing the haj and being exposed to so many people. You are strongly encouraged to get the flu vaccine.

Also look out for MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome).

What is traveller’s diarrhoea and how can I prevent it?

Traveller’s diarrhoea can happen to 30%-70% of all travellers, depending on the season!

It commonly happens because of poor hygiene in the country’s restaurants, and is caused by bacteria – the commonest being E. coli.

It is commoner in younger, rather than older travellers.

High-risk areas for traveller’s diarrhoea include most of Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Central and South America.

You usually get cramps, then diarrhoea, which can be bloody. You may also experience vomiting and fever.

If you don’t treat it, it can last up to three days for a viral infection and seven days for a bacterial infection.

You can prevent it by being very careful in what you eat. Drink only mineral water from a bottle, and go to reputable restaurants.

At this time, it is not recommended that you take prophylactic antibiotics as you are not sure which microbe might infect you.

During a RedditAMA, Garrett was asked if anyone has ever told him that he looks like actor Beau Bridges, Jeff Bridges’ brother and the late Lloyd Bridges’ son. He said he’s been told that for about 20 years and even Bridges himself agrees.

When they worked on Masters of Sex in 2013, “I introduced myself, and he looked at me, and he said, ‘Has anyone ever told you that we look alike? I feel like I’m looking in a mirror’ and then he proceeded to tell me a story about when he was a young boy, he was at my parent’s wedding, both Beau & Jeff, and their father Lloyd, and Lloyd’s wife, were at the wedding of my mom & dad,” Garrett wrote.

At the wedding, Beau “bumped” into Garrett’s mother and gave her a bloody nose! Bridges then asked Garrett if he could call his mother to apologize all 50 years later, using Garrett’s phone.

“So I got on my cell phone, we called my mom, she picked up, I said, ‘Mom I have someone here who’d like to talk to you,’ and then Beau said ‘Hey Kathleen, it’s Beau Bridges’ and I heard this funny laugh, my mother’s funny laugh on the other end of the phone, and Beau said, ‘I just wanted to apologize for giving you a bloody nose 50 years ago.’ And she said, ‘All is forgiven, my dear, take care of my son.’ Isn’t that sweet?”

In early September 2017, Chapman revealed to friends that she was diagnosed with stage 2 throat cancer after suffering from a cough. In a letter obtained by Us Weekly, Chapman reportedly wrote:

As most of you know I’ve spent a lifetime facing tests and challenges I didn’t see coming and certainly never expected. I’ve been dealt my share of unexpected blows over the course of my almost fifty years but nothing as serious as the one I heard from my doctors two weeks ago when they uttered those dreaded three words, ‘You have cancer.’

She continued:

After months of a nagging cough, a routine checkup resulted in a diagnosis of stage II throat cancer. I have what is referred to as a T2 Tumor in my throat that is blocking my breathing. My doctors are suggesting immediate treatment and surgery before the disease progresses.

A few weeks after Chapman told her friends the news, she underwent surgery.

2. She Had a Plum-Sized Tumor Removed from her Neck

Country Living Magazine has reported that Chapman underwent a 13-hour surgery to remove a plum-sized tumor from her neck. She supposedly had to be cut from ear to ear in order to remove the mass. In a statement to the Honolulu Star Advertiser, Chapman’s husband announced that:

Her doctor said we won round one. We will know more later this week. Mahalo to everyone for their prayers.

On Saturday, September 23, 2017, Chapman had her tumor removed at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.

At this stage in her journey, Chapman does not know a prognosis and is recovering from her surgery. She should know more soon. Us Weekly reports Chapman saying that she won’t go down without a fight. She stated:

To be certain, I’ve stared down the devil more than once in my life but I’ve never faced a real life or death decision. My life has never been easy, and I surely don’t expect it to start now. Still, I’ve never been a victim and I won’t let cancer beat me. I realize the road I am about to travel will be rocky, full of unexpected twists and turns. But I know one thing for sure. A bend in the road is not the end of the road.

Prior to surgery, Chapman said:

While I know my diagnosis, until I come out of my surgery, I do not yet know my prognosis. If all goes well, my doctors will be able to get the tumor.
